Daily Mashup:Soriano looks strong, The Prof reviews 2k10 and more…

I hope you all had a safe St Patrick’s Day, full of drunken debauchery and Irish fun. I know I did, and I learned one thing about myself–I am getting entirely too old to go out and take shots in the middle of the week. Thursday has been kicking my butt so far, but that doesn’t stop the Daily Mashup from happening–that said onto your news about the Tampa Bay Rays.

Soriano looks good–kind of

Newly acquired closer Rafael Soriano looked good in his first action of the spring, striking out the first two batters he faced. That is great, but he did go on to hit a batter and give up a double. Early indication, he’s got strong stuff, just hoping that control is something he can tweak. I am sure it is. At any rate, he is better than any closer that we had last year.

The Tampa Bay Rays secret weapon

Despite grumblings this week that Andy Sonnanstine may be pushing Wade Davis for the last spot in the rotation, I feel pretty certain that we will see Davis start the season on the 25 man roster. Hell, I have even gone as far as picking him as my AL Rookie of the Year in every instance I have been asked.

Davis is touted as the Rays “Secret Weapon” by Ben Pavlovic on RotoProfessor.com. You can read what Pavlovic has to say here.

However, despite my feelings about Davis (and okay, maybe it is a slight bit of a man crush–simply because I think this guy is going to be our number one in the next two years) Cork Gaines at RaysIndex.com has a really interesting take on what may happen with the Davis vs Sonnanstine showdown. It may come down to what is best for the team from a monetary standpoint

Rodriguez roaming the outfield

Rookie Sean Rodriguez has spent more time in the outfield than the infield this spring–and that may be what lands him his roster spot.

We know it is no secret that skipper Joe Maddon likes having players that are flexible in the positions they can play effectivly. Rodriguez was a strong middle infield prospect, but has been tearing it up in the outfield this spring.

You can read more about his diving catches here.

Sounds like Rodriguez has his ticket pretty well written.

The Prof is playing some video games

Cork Gaines aka The Professor aka the man behind RaysIndex.com took some time out of his busy schedule to give us a review of MLB2k10–the game that Evan Longoria made the cover for.

Personally, I am not a fan of the 2k10 series, and went for MLB The Show ’10 and LOVE IT! (a review is coming as well as some other tidbits).

You can read about The Prof’s take on the new game here.
